Lot #382 - Finished in NATO Green vinyl wrap over a graphite interior, this Tacoma has 14,600 actual miles. It's is powered by a 4.0-liter TRD supercharged V6 engine producing 380hp through a 4-wheel drive system and an automatic transmission. The Polar Expedition was designed and built with the help of Artic Trucks, who have had vast experience in building upgraded Toyota Tacomas and Toyota Hiluxes meant to conquer arctic conditions. The Tacoma, nicknamed "Polar," took years of planning. The team behind this journey was comprised of British Polar expedition leader Jason De Carteret, British engineering specialist Kieron Bradley and Canadian copywriter Jason Thomas. The "Polar" would have to conquer temperatures of -89 degrees Celsius, which is known to cause ball bearings to shatter and fuel to explode. This Tacoma has set the Guinness World Record for fastest overland journey to the South Pole (700 miles), which was completed in one day, 15 hours and 54 minutes. The Tacoma Polar Expedition cost $400,000 to build.

We first told you about this wild one-off last year, but now Russo and Steele auction house will be taking bids for the Arctic-outfitted, world-record-holding Tacoma vehicle in Scottsdale, Arizona, from January 14 to 18.Don’t worry about this thing being able to handle the winters in Buffalo or wherever: in 2011 it broke the world record for the fastest overland journey to the South Pole, making the trip there and back in under 40 hours. It gets its go from a TRD-supercharged 4.0-liter V6 engine that creates 341 horsepower, while some $400,000 were spent on after-market modifications, including a 330-gallon extended-range fuel tank, military-grade steel, 44-inch Mickey Thompson Icepack tires, a custom built suspension by Marconi, four Polar racing seats, a full roll cage, four HD cameras, and two GPS units. The lucky (rich) bidder will also find some other treats in the glove box, including the original driver’s license for Antarctica and the trip’s log notes.
